SKA partnered with Mandarina Interior Design Studio on this gut renovation of a Victorian in the Avon Hill neighborhood of Cambridge, aiming to restore the character of this 1897 home, which had been stripped of its original details throughout the interior.

The design involved leaning into the existing features, like the four-story staircase and original window seats, and incorporating the clients’ extensive and colorful art collection. The renovation included the entry, kitchen, powder room, mudroom, second-floor bedrooms for the family’s two daughters, a home office, a third-floor primary suite, and a complete overhaul of the landscaping, with the addition of a plunge pool.

One of the biggest challenges involved the creation of two ensuite bathrooms for the children, while working within the existing footprint of the home. By creatively reconfiguring space at this floor, we were able to efficiently incorporate two beautiful bathrooms to support this growing family.
