Central Hill Craftsman Transformation

Originally constructed in the 1800s, this home carries with it the character, craftsmanship, and proportions that define historic New England architecture. The intent of this renovation was not to erase that history, but to thoughtfully evolve it. Our approach focused on modernizing the home’s tectonics, materials, and finishes while preserving the spirit and integrity of the original structure. By carefully reworking key architectural elements, the home has been adapted to support the rhythm and needs of present-day family life without losing the charm that has allowed it to stand for generations.

The renovation centered on opening up the interior and creating spaces that feel connected, comfortable, and functional for everyday living. Areas that were once compartmentalized were reconsidered and reshaped to encourage better flow between rooms, allowing natural light to move more freely throughout the home. This shift not only improves circulation but also fosters a stronger sense of gathering and togetherness, making the home more welcoming for family life and entertaining alike.

In close collaboration with interior designer Emily Pinney, the project embraces a thoughtful layering of materials and finishes that balance warmth with restraint. Natural textures and warm tones are paired with cooler, more refined elements to create a composition that feels both relaxed and sophisticated. This curated contrast gives the interiors depth while maintaining a sense of calm and cohesion throughout the home.

The overall palette was intentionally designed to feel timeless rather than trend-driven. By focusing on enduring materials, subtle detailing, and a balanced interplay of textures and tones, the home achieves a quiet elegance that will age gracefully. The result is a space that feels rooted in its history yet comfortably aligned with contemporary living.

Together, the architectural interventions and interior design choices create a home that honors its 19th-century origins while supporting the way families live today. The renovation bridges past and present, ensuring that this historic house continues to serve as a warm and enduring place for gathering, living, and making memories for generations to come.
