This client approached SKA seeking a historically sensitive renovation of their Tudor home, with a focus on refining key interior elements while preserving the character that defines the property. Our role centered on reimagining the fireplace mantel, redesigning the interior railings throughout the home, and enhancing the upper-level bookcases and storage areas to better serve modern living needs.
Each intervention was approached with a deep respect for the home’s original architecture. Rather than introducing competing design elements, the goal was to create a seamless dialogue between old and new where every detail feels as though it has always belonged. The fireplace mantel was carefully proportioned and detailed to act as a focal point within the space, reinforcing the sense of warmth and tradition that is central to Tudor design. Similarly, the railings were thoughtfully redesigned to balance craftsmanship and restraint, contributing to the home’s overall sense of rhythm and continuity.
On the upper levels, custom bookcases and storage solutions were developed to integrate effortlessly into the existing structure, maximizing functionality without compromising aesthetic integrity. These elements were designed to feel both purposeful and timeless, offering practical storage while enhancing the architectural language of the home.
Throughout the project, precision and historical accuracy remained at the forefront. From profiles and proportions to material selections and joinery, every decision was made with careful consideration to ensure authenticity. The result is a cohesive renovation that honors the grandeur of the original Tudor home while subtly elevating it for contemporary living.
